Nutrition and Food Security Programs

Good nutrition is a foundation for good health. Yet, too many Rhode Islanders struggle with food insecurity. According to the Rhode Island Food Bank:

  • 38 percent of Rhode Island households are food insecure
  • Low-income Rhode Islanders miss more than 42 million meals each year

Through nutrition and food security programs across Rhode Island and Southern New England, the Community Health Institute (CHI) of Brown University Health helps more than 4,440 community members annually to access healthy food, build lifelong healthy habits, and prevent or manage chronic disease

Working alongside community organizations, healthcare providers, and public agencies, CHI connects individuals and families to the resources, education, and support they need to improve their health and well-being.
