Patients who undergo spine surgery at the Spine Center at The Miriam Hospital spend less time in the hospital than the national benchmark. In FY26, the Spine Center’s average length of stay was 2.7 days, compared with the national benchmark of 3.1 days. Shorter hospital stays can help patients return to the comfort of home sooner while maintaining high standards of care.
Most Spine Center patients are able to recover at home after their procedure rather than being discharged to a rehabilitation or skilled nursing facility. In FY26, 94 percent of patients returned home after surgery, exceeding the 90 percent national benchmark. This reflects the center’s focus on patient preparation, recovery planning, and coordinated care.
Preventing infections is a key measure of surgical quality and patient safety. In FY26, the Spine Center’s surgical site infection rate was 0.2 percent, which was lower than the American Spine Registry benchmark of 0.4 percent. This result reflects the center’s commitment to evidence-based practices that help reduce complications and support successful recoveries.
