Certified Nurse Midwife

Katrina Adora Despinos (she/her), MSN, CNM, APRN, FNP is a certified nurse midwife with Brown Health Medical Group, Obstetrics and GynecologyShe received her Bachelor of Science in Nursing at the University of Central Florida and her Masters of Nursing at Vanderbilt University.

Katrina is originally from Florida, where she was born and raised, and is of Haitian descent. Her desire to become a midwife stemmed from seeing her mother’s career success as a Nurse Practitioner and a close family member's success as an OBGYN. Both women listened as Katrina grew up speaking about wanting to provide care to families during their life, pregnancies, and births. They encouraged her to explore midwifery as a career option and ultimately, along with a push from community midwives in Florida, Katrina applied to midwifery school and never looked back. Along this journey, Katrina has worked as a Certified Doula and labor and delivery nurse participating in births at the home, birth center, and hospital.

Katrina’s interests in midwifery include advocacy, education, reproductive rights and choices, health promotion and wellness, and striving to improve the outcomes of black maternal health.

Katrina also works as a nursing instructor. On her days off she enjoys dancing, aerial yoga, learning how to roller skate, binge-watching TV shows, and spending time with family and friends. She is still holding onto her second career choice and dreams to be a DJ one day.
