SoCRA Rhode Island Chapter Meeting
Thursday, April 9, 2026 at 1:00 to 2:00p.m.
The Society of Clinical Research Associates (SoCRA), a nonprofit and educational membership organization committed to providing education, certification, and networking opportunities to all persons involved in clinical research activities will hold its Rhode Island Chapter meeting on Thursday, April 9, 2026 from 1 to 2 p.m. via a virtual presentation.
Topic
The title of this presentation will be "Single IRB: When Less is More."
Overview
The single IRB process is comprised of federal guidance and institution-specific procedures. Whether the local study team is identified as the lead site or a relying site, understanding the roles and responsibilities of the collaborating researchers is an essential component to ensure the protection of the rights, safety, and welfare of the study participants. Understanding the differences between standard review and single IRB review will allow the local study team to prepare for an efficient review process, incorporating a clear communication plan designed to sustain the project through completion.
Objectives
This presentation will focus on providing:
- An overview of the purpose of single IRB review process
- Understanding of the responsibilities of the principal investigator/coordinator when relying on the review of an external IRB
- Understanding of benefits of a communication plan
Speaker
This presentation will be led by Claire Walker, senior HRPP reliance administrator at Brown University Health.
