In Good Hands: Grateful Patient Shares ‘Excellent’ Experience
Diana Wantoch is a retired nurse and current healthcare consultant with expertise in quality, risk management, and patient safety.
So, she knows a thing or two about what it takes to deliver compassionate, coordinated, and exceptional care—which, she says, is exactly what she received at The Miriam.
In the summer of 2023, Diana experienced several episodes of sharp, gripping pain in her upper abdominal area. Her primary care doctor ordered a battery of tests to determine the cause, and Diana’s lab work revealed the presence of gallstones. She would need to see a gastroenterologist.
Diana contacted The Miriam, and staff there quickly worked to get her seen the next week. From those discussions, it was agreed that Diana should also have a surgeon weigh-in on her case.
Soon after, she met with a general surgeon at The Miriam, who determined that the best course of treatment for her was to undergo a minimally invasive surgical procedure to remove her diseased gallbladder, which she did.
The operation was a success, and Diana was pain-free and back to her busy, healthy lifestyle in short order.
In retrospect, Diana says she was always confident she was in good hands. “I went to The Miriam Hospital expecting to receive excellent care and I was not disappointed,” she explains. “I commend the staff for their kindness, patience, and helpful explanations.”
Also, for being flexible, timely, and accommodating with the care they provided, she adds. Before her surgery, Diana asked the surgeon if he felt she’d be recovered sufficiently to attend her grandson’s wedding, which was less than a month later. He reassured her that she would be.
“And that is just what happened,” Diana reports. “I felt fortunate to be there and enjoyed the special day feeling very well . . . thanks to The Miriam!”
