The Miriam Hospital has once again been honored as a national Top Hospital for outstanding patient safety and quality by the Leapfrog Group.
Over 2,200 hospitals were considered for the 2021 Leapfrog Top Hospital award. Of those, 149 received awards. The Miriam Hospital was among 72 selected in the teaching hospital category.
The Miriam Hospital has received a Top Hospital designation from Leapfrog numerous times in recent years.
“We are very proud to be included on this select list of the top hospitals in the nation, especially when the criteria relate directly to patient safety,” said President Maria Ducharme, DNP, RN, NEA-BC. “The Miriam has been repeatedly named a Leapfrog Top Hospital and that recognition reflects the outstanding commitment and compassion of our staff and our culture of prioritizing, and continuously advancing, our patient safety practices. Even this past year, amid the pandemic, we have launched an ambitious program of leadership rounding and inspections to identify and resolve safety issues and to recognize our colleagues’ efforts.”
The Leapfrog Group is a national watchdog organization focused on health care safety and quality. The quality of patient care across many areas of hospital performance is considered in establishing the qualifications for the award, including infection rates, surgery, and hospital capacity to prevent medication and other errors.
The winners are being announced at virtual annual meeting on Dec. 7.
“We are pleased to recognize The Miriam Hospital as a Top Hospital this year,” said Leah Binder, president and CEO of The Leapfrog Group. “Even with the continued strain of the COVID-19 pandemic, The Miriam has demonstrated an extraordinary dedication to excellent health care. We congratulate the board, leadership, staff and clinicians who put their patients first.”
