Morton Hospital has successfully earned The Joint Commission’s Health Care Equity Certification following a survey of its programs and services on November 12.
Introduced in 2023, The Joint Commission’s Health Equity Certification program recognizes hospitals that demonstrate adherence to comprehensive accreditation requirements and strive for excellence in providing equitable care, treatment, and services to all patient populations.
“It’s an honor and privilege to care for our community every day, and I’m incredibly proud of our caregiver team for demonstrating their dedication to providing exceptional care when our patients need it most,” said Morton Hospital President and VP of Finance Heidi Taylor. “We are also grateful to the many community partners whom we collaborate with to ensure our patients have access to critical programming and support services close to home.”
Health equity-related initiatives at Morton Hospital include collecting and analyzing data to identify any disparities in patient care or outcomes, screening patients for health-related social needs, participating in the MassHealth Quality and Equity Program, and partnering with community resources for specialized support and wrap-around services.
“Reducing health care disparities and providing quality care to all patients regardless of background, demographics, or socioeconomic factors is one of our highest commitments at Morton Hospital,” said Morton Hospital Chief Medical Officer Jill O’Brien, MD, FACP. “This achievement is attributed to the meaningful work our staff does every day to deliver safe, equitable care with compassion and respect for all patients, especially our most vulnerable residents of Taunton and our surrounding communities.”
This certification comes on the heels of Morton Hospital earning formal Joint Commission accreditation in July following a rigorous onsite survey conducted by trained surveyors who assessed the hospital’s compliance with hundreds of quality and safety standards.
