Saint Anne’s Hospital has been awarded an ‘A’ Hospital Safety Grade by The Leapfrog Group for the 28th consecutive grading cycle, maintaining this distinction since the program’s inception in 2012. This elite national recognition reflects the hospital’s longstanding dedication to patient safety and its sustained efforts to prevent medical errors and avoidable harm.

“Earning an ‘A’ for patient safety 28 consecutive times over 13 years reflects the unwavering dedication of our entire team to upholding a culture of safety,” said Carole Billington, MSN, RN, NEA-BC, president and chief nursing officer at Saint Anne’s Hospital. “Each day, our employees and providers work together with one shared goal, delivering the safest, most reliable care possible. We’re proud to stand among a select group of hospitals nationwide recognized for this ongoing excellence.”

The Leapfrog Group, an independent national watchdog organization, assigns an “A,” “B,” “C,” “D” or “F” grade to general hospitals across the country based on over 30 national performance measures reflecting errors, accidents, injuries and infections, as well as systems hospitals have in place to prevent harm.

“I’m incredibly proud of the team at Saint Anne’s Hospital for earning its 28th consecutive ‘Straight A’ grade in patient safety, an extraordinary achievement that places them among a very small number of hospitals nationwide, said Sarah Frost, chief of hospital operations, Brown University Health and president of Rhode Island and Hasbro Children’s Hospital. “This accomplishment is a testament to the care teams at Saint Anne’s Hospital who continuously deliver outstanding, safe, high-quality care to the communities they serve.”

The Leapfrog Hospital Safety Grade is the only hospital ratings program based exclusively on hospital prevention of medical errors and harm to patients. The grading system is peer-reviewed, fully transparent and free to the public. Grades are updated twice annually, in the fall and spring.

“My sincere congratulations to Saint Anne’s Hospital for upholding patient safety standards through thick and thin, achieving an ‘A’ Hospital Safety Grade for 28 consecutive rounds of the Safety Grade,” said Leah Binder, president and CEO of The Leapfrog Group. “Consistently earning an ‘A’ demonstrates a long-term, organization-wide commitment to putting patient safety first.”
