“Find a Doctor” is operated by Brown University Health and includes all physicians who are on the medical staffs of Brown University Health-affiliated hospitals, without any charge to them. Selection is based upon your needs and preferences. Search results will first present, in alphabetical order, physicians employed or contracted with Brown University Health or its affiliates, followed by an alphabetical listing of physicians who are in Brown University Health’s network of affiliated providers. At the end of that initial list, you can access an alphabetical listing of community physicians with privileges at Brown University Health hospitals. All physicians in Find a Doctor have the opportunity to have a picture or video posted on the site. Neither the order of physicians, nor the presence or absence of a photo or video, in Find a Doctor is intended to reflect any preference, priority, or recommendation by Brown University Health. Find a Doctor search results are also not based on the volume or value of referrals to Brown University Health or its affiliates from any listed physician. Users are free to select their physician of choice from among all Brown University Health-affiliated medical staff physicians.
Chrystal Vergara-Lopez, PhD
Senior Research Scientist and Clinical Psychologist
Chrystal Vergara-Lopez, PhD, is a senior research scientist at the Center for Behavioral and Preventive Medicine and the Center of Biomedical Research Excellence for Stress, Trauma, and Resilience (STAR) at The Miriam Hospital. She also serves as an associate professor in the Department of Psychiatry and Human Behavior at The Warren Alpert Medical School of Brown University. In these roles, Dr. Vergara-Lopez provides supervision and mentorship to clinical and research trainees, fostering the next generation of behavioral health researchers and practitioners.
Her research employs experimental and longitudinal methods to identify cognitive, biological, and contextual mechanisms underlying mental health and substance use. She focuses on cognitive control, repetitive negative thinking, adversity, stress physiology, and hormonal influences during key developmental periods, including adolescence and young adulthood. Her work is supported by the Brain and Behavior Foundation, the National Institute of General Medical Sciences, and the National Institute on Drug Abuse, reflecting her contributions to advancing behavioral health science. Through multidisciplinary collaborations, she aims to translate research findings into effective interventions that improve health and resilience across diverse communities.
Dr. Vergara-Lopez is a licensed psychologist with clinical expertise across the lifespan. She provides integrated behavioral health services, individual therapy, well-being interventions, and Early Childhood Mental Health Consultation. She is committed to culturally responsive and linguistically appropriate care. She earned a BA in Psychology from New York University, an MA and PhD in Clinical Psychology from the University at Buffalo, completed a clinical residency at Rutgers University, and a NIDA-funded postdoctoral fellowship at The Warren Alpert Medical School of Brown University.
