Steven F. Moss, MD
Gastroenterologist
Steven Moss, MD, is a gastroenterologist with Brown University Health Gastroenterology. In addition, he is a professor of medicine at The Warren Alpert Medical School of Brown University, the program director for the Brown Gastroenterology fellowship training program, and the director of endoscopy at the Providence VA Medical Center.
Dr. Moss has published over 200 articles in peer-reviewed academic journals, authored book chapters, and presented at medical conferences around the world. His research is focused on studying H. pylori, a common bacterial infection that can lead to stomach problems, including gastric cancer. His work spans laboratory research, clinical studies, and projects that connect the two, funded by national organizations such as the NIH and the American Gastroenterological Association. He investigates how H. pylori damages stomach cells and explores novel therapeutic approaches. Dr. Moss has received national recognition for his research, advised the World Health Organization, and helped write major U.S. and international clinical guidelines on treating H. pylori infections in 2017, 2021, and 2024.
He earned a medical degree from University College Hospital in London. Dr. Moss completed a medicine residency at Central Middlesex Hospital, Royal Brompton Hospital, Charing Cross Hospital, and Ealing Hospital and an internship at Edgware General, University College, and Middlesex Hospitals – all in London. He was a Wellcome Trust Research Fellow in gastroenterology at the Royal Postgraduate Medical School and a gastroenterology fellow at Mount Sinai Morningside, formerly St. Luke's Roosevelt Hospital Center, in New York City.
He is a fellow of the American Gastroenterology Association and the American College of Gastroenterology.
