James Brindle, PhD, DABR

Associate Medical Physicist, Department of Radiation Oncology, Rhode Island Hospital

James Brindle, PhD, DABR, is the associate medical physicist-in-chief at the Brown University Health Cancer Institute and an associate professor of radiation oncology at The Warren Alpert School of Medicine of Brown University. 

Besides his current duties at Brown University Health, Dr. Brindle is the program director of Brown University’s medical physics residency program, an adjunct assistant professor of physics at the University of Rhode Island, and an adjunct assistant professor of radiation oncology at the Tufts University School of Medicine.

He is certified in therapeutic medical physics from the American Board of Radiology.

Prior to joining Brown University Health, he worked as a medical physicist with Case Western Reserve University’s Comprehensive Cancer Institute and an associate program director at the institute’s medical physics residency program. In addition, he was an assistant professor of radiation oncology at Case Western Reserve University and served as a lieutenant and radiation health officer in the U.S. Navy.

He earned a doctorate in nuclear engineering sciences from the University of Florida and a master’s in public health at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.

He has presented at numerous conferences and collaborated on medical research published in academic journals. He is a member of the American Association of Physicists in Medicine, the American Society for Radiation Oncology, and the Society of Directors of Academic Medical Physics Programs.
