Certified Nurse Midwife

Kate Kernochan, CNM, WHNP-BC, is a certified nurse midwife with Brown Health Medical Group Obstetrics and Gynecology. They studied dance at Sarah Lawrence College, nursing at Simmons College, and completed their graduate degree in nurse-midwifery and women’s health at Georgetown University.

Kernochan's midwifery practice is rooted in their beginnings as a dancer, where the intersection between movement and medicine became clear. They volunteered as a full-spectrum doula with Seattle Full Spectrum Doulas and Boston Abortion Support Collective (BASC) as they studied science and nursing, supporting people experiencing all forms of labor, birth, and loss. They went on to work as a nurse in family planning before landing in their career as a midwife.

Kernochan's interests include LGBTQ+ health and gender affirming care, health equity, supporting physiologic birth, and family planning.

They live in Providence with their partner and child. When not working, Kate enjoys swimming, spending time in nature, and cozy dinners with friends and family.
