Beth Ryder, MD, FACS, is division chief of Brown University Health Division of General Surgery, where she oversees general and bariatric surgeons across all Brown Health sites. Dr. Ryder is a board-certified metabolic bariatric and general surgeon who specializes in minimally invasive surgery. In addition, she is a professor of surgery (clinician educator) and medical science (clinician educator) at The Warren Alpert Medical School of Brown University.

Before becoming the division chief, Dr. Ryder served as the program director of the Center for Medical and Surgical Weight Loss.

Dr. Ryder earned her medical degree at Tufts University School of Medicine in Boston and completed a residency in general surgery and a fellowship in minimally invasive surgery at Rhode Island Hospital.

She has made significant contributions to the scientific literature as co-author of many peer-reviewed publications and has presented nationally and internationally. She is a reviewer for several professional journals.

Among her honors, she has received numerous dean’s excellence in teaching awards as well as a faculty award at The Warren Alpert Medical School of Brown University and has been named a Top Doc by Rhode Island Monthly.

Dr. Ryder is a fellow of the American College of Surgeons and a member of the Society of American Gastrointestinal Endoscopic Surgeons, the American Society for Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery, the Association for Surgical Education, the New England Society for Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery, and Rhode Island Medical Women’s Association, among others.
