David Jaekwang Shim, MD, PhD

David Jaekwang Shim, MD, PhD, is a cardiologist specializing in electrophysiology with the Brown University Health Cardiovascular Institute.

Prior to joining Brown Health, Dr. Shim was an attending electrophysiologist at Portland VA Medical Center, Oregon and assistant professor at Oregon Health and Science University.

He earned a medical degree from Baylor College of Medicine in Texas, where he also completed a doctoral degree in neuroscience under the medical scientist training program. Dr. Shim completed a residency in internal medicine at New York Presbyterian-Columbia University Medical Center, New York. He went on to pursue a fellowship in cardiology at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center, Boston, where he later completed an advanced fellowship in electrophysiology.

His interest in research has extended over a decade at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center, Baylor College of Medicine, Dana-Farber Cancer Institute, and Schepens Eye Research Institute. During this time, Dr. Shim received a NRSA Fellowship from the National Institutes of Health to support his research. He has also presented at numerous conferences and published his medical research in numerous peer reviewed journals.
