“Find a Doctor” is operated by Brown University Health and includes all physicians who are on the medical staffs of Brown University Health-affiliated hospitals, without any charge to them. Selection is based upon your needs and preferences. Search results will first present, in alphabetical order, physicians employed or contracted with Brown University Health or its affiliates, followed by an alphabetical listing of physicians who are in Brown University Health’s network of affiliated providers. At the end of that initial list, you can access an alphabetical listing of community physicians with privileges at Brown University Health hospitals. All physicians in Find a Doctor have the opportunity to have a picture or video posted on the site. Neither the order of physicians, nor the presence or absence of a photo or video, in Find a Doctor is intended to reflect any preference, priority, or recommendation by Brown University Health. Find a Doctor search results are also not based on the volume or value of referrals to Brown University Health or its affiliates from any listed physician. Users are free to select their physician of choice from among all Brown University Health-affiliated medical staff physicians.
Elias Shaaya, MD
Neurosurgeon
Elias Shaaya, MD, is a fellowship-trained cerebrovascular neurosurgeon with Brown University Health’s neurosurgery and neurointerventional radiology programs and the Comprehensive Stroke Center at Rhode Island Hospital.
Dr. Shaaya has collaborated on research published in several prestigious peer-reviewed, academic journals and spoken at national neurosurgical conferences on various neurosurgical diseases and treatment with a particular focus on spinal and cerebrovascular topics. He has authored multiple chapters in neurosurgical textbooks. In addition, he was a collaborator on the Intelligent Spinal Interface project with the Brown Neuromotion Lab, a project funded by DARPA, which looked at restoring function in patients with spinal cord injury.
A native of Beirut, Dr. Shaaya earned his bachelor’s degree from Harvard University before graduating Georgetown University School of Medicine in Washington, DC. He completed neurosurgery residency and a neurointerventional radiology fellowship at Rhode Island Hospital/The Warren Alpert Medical School of Brown University.
Dr. Shaaya is a member of the American Association of Neurological Surgeons, the Congress of Neurological Surgeons, and the Society of NeuroInterventional Surgery.
He is fluent in Arabic, English, and French.
