Pediatric Gastroenterologist

Irina Gorbounova, MD, is a board-certified pediatric gastroenterologist at Hasbro Children’s’s Division of Pediatric Gastroenterology and the director of the Mind-Gut Wellness Clinic (MGW) where she provides multidisciplinary care to children with disorders of gut brain interaction (DGBI). Dr. Gorbounova believes in providing evidence-based and tailored care to children with DGBI through partnership with the patient and family. 

In addition, she is an assistant professor of pediatrics at The Warren Alpert Medical School of Brown University. Dr. Gorbounova is interested in disorders of gut-brain interaction, pediatric chronic pain, and functional abdominal pain disorders. Her research is focused on DGBI, social media and stress, and has been presented at numerous conferences and published in academic journals. Dr. Gorbounova is passionate about improving care pathways and access for youth with chronic gastrointestinal and pain disorders through evidence-based, multidisciplinary interventions.

She earned a medical degree from Boston University’s Chobanian and Avedisian School of Medicine. She completed a general pediatric residency at the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai in New York and a pediatric gastroenterology and nutrition fellowship at the University of Washington and Seattle Children’s Hospital.
