“Find a Doctor” is operated by Brown University Health and includes all physicians who are on the medical staffs of Brown University Health-affiliated hospitals, without any charge to them. Selection is based upon your needs and preferences. Search results will first present, in alphabetical order, physicians employed or contracted with Brown University Health or its affiliates, followed by an alphabetical listing of physicians who are in Brown University Health’s network of affiliated providers. At the end of that initial list, you can access an alphabetical listing of community physicians with privileges at Brown University Health hospitals. All physicians in Find a Doctor have the opportunity to have a picture or video posted on the site. Neither the order of physicians, nor the presence or absence of a photo or video, in Find a Doctor is intended to reflect any preference, priority, or recommendation by Brown University Health. Find a Doctor search results are also not based on the volume or value of referrals to Brown University Health or its affiliates from any listed physician. Users are free to select their physician of choice from among all Brown University Health-affiliated medical staff physicians.
Jose A. Monteiro, MD

Jose Monteiro, MD, FACP, is a board-certified internist at Saint Anne’s Hospital.
He earned a medical degree from Faculdade de Ciencias Medicas in Portugal, a degree of consultant in internal medicine at Hospital de Egas Moniz, also in Portugal, and a diploma of intensive care medicine from the European Society of Intensive Care Medicine. Dr. Monteiro completed a general medical hospital residency at the Hospitais Civis de Lisboa, an internal medicine internship at Woodhull Medical and Mental Health Center/SUNY Downstate Health Sciences University, a residency at St. Vincents Hospital in Worcester, Massachusetts, and completed an infectious diseases fellowship at the Hospital de Curry Cabral, Hispitais Civis de Lisboa. He finished extensive medical training, including public health training at Centro de Saude de Portimão in Algarve, Portugal, completed a course of public health and tropical medicine at the Institute of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine (IHMT) of the Universidade Nova de Lisboa, and completed a course of occupational health medicine at Escola Nacional de Saude Publica in Lisbon.
Dr. Monteiro has collaborated on research published in peer-reviewed academic journals, served as a peer reviewer for numerous medical publications, and spoken at medical conferences.
Dr. Monteiro has been recertified five times by the American Board of Internal Medicine. He is a certified bone densitometrist. He is a member of the Ordem do Medicos de Portugal, the American Medical Association, and the Massachusetts Medical Society and a fellow of the American College of Physicians.
