Cardiovascular Surgeon

Kaushik Mandal, MD, MS, MPH, FESC, FHRS, FRCS(CTh) is a cardiovascular surgeon with the Brown University Health Cardiovascular Institute. He specializes in minimally invasive and robotic surgeries, including valve repairs, Maze procedures, and Transcatheter aortic and mitral valve therapies.

He has held several leadership positions and faculty appointments in surgery at medical universities throughout the US including Wayne State University, Penn State College, and Johns Hopkins University, while also serving in leadership roles at their teaching hospitals. Dr. Mandal is currently a professor of surgery at The Warren Alpert Medical School of Brown University. 

While earning a medical degree from the University of London, United Kingdom, he pursued high-quality research in the field of autoimmunity, inflammation, atherosclerosis and arrhythmia, which led to an honorary fellowship of the European Society of Cardiology. After receiving his medical degree, he obtained further training, which included a fellowship in robotic and minimally invasive cardiac surgery at East Carolina Heart Institute, Greenville NC. He completed a residency in cardiothoracic surgery at Johns Hopkins Hospital, Baltimore and was chief resident of cardiac surgery.

Throughout his career, Dr. Mandal has presented at numerous conferences and collaborated on medical research and  published more than 150 peer-reviewed articles and abstracts in academic journals, many of which have been cited in peers’ scholarly papers.

Dr. Mandal serves on the editorial board of Heart Surgery Forum, Indian Journal of Thoracic & Cardiovascular Surgery, and as ad hoc reviewer for many professional journals. He holds leadership positions with international organizations including the American Association for Thoracic Surgery (AATS) and the Society of Thoracic Surgeons (STS) and is a board member with industry companies including Corisma, Inc.

His active professional memberships are many and include the European Society of Cardiology, Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh, American Society of Artificial Internal Organs, and the Society of Thoracic Surgeons.
