Kittichai Promrat, MD

Gastroenterologist

Kittichai Promrat, MD, is a gastroenterologist and hepatologist with Brown University Health’s Center for Inflammatory Bowel and Liver Disease. In addition, he is a professor of medicine and the interim director for The Warren Alpert Medical School of Brown University’s Division of Gastroenterology.

His clinical and research expertise focuses on the diagnosis and management of chronic liver diseases, in particular metabolic dysfunction associated steatotic liver disease (MASLD). His research led to the establishment of lifestyle intervention and weight loss as the foundation of treatment for MASLD.

He has collaborated on research published in high impact peer-reviewed academic journals. Dr. Promrat’s research focuses on how liver diseases develop and progress as a method to create better treatments for patients.

He received a medical degree from the Chiangmai University School of Medicine in Thailand. Dr. Promrat completed his gastroenterology fellowship at the University of Connecticut, and a hepatology fellowship at the National Institute of Diabetes and Digestive and Kidney Diseases (NIDDK) in Bethesda, Maryland. He is a fellow of the American Association for the Study of Liver Diseases (AASLD) and a member of the American Gastroenterological Association (AGA).
