Search results will first present, in alphabetical order, physicians employed or contracted with Brown University Health or its affiliates, followed by an alphabetical listing of physicians who are in Brown University Health’s network of affiliated providers. At the end of that initial list, you can access an alphabetical listing of community physicians with privileges at Brown University Health hospitals. All physicians in Find a Doctor have the opportunity to have a picture or video posted on the site. Neither the order of physicians, nor the presence or absence of a photo or video, in Find a Doctor is intended to reflect any preference, priority, or recommendation by Brown University Health. Marcoandrea Giorgi, MD, FACS, FASMBS, is a minimally invasive and bariatric surgeon with Brown Surgical Associates who specializes in robot-assisted surgeries. He serves as the director of its Comprehensive Hernia Center and the Abdominal Wall Program. Dr. Giorgi has completed more than 4,300 procedures and 1,000 robotic cases since he joined Brown University Health in 2019.
Although his primary focus is bariatric surgery with the Center for Medical and Surgical Weight Loss, Dr. Giorgi also treats patients who require traditional surgeries with minimally invasive and endoscopic techniques. In addition to his clinical practice, he is an associate professor of surgery at The Warren Alpert Medical School of Brown University.
Medical education is central to Dr. Giorgi’s work. He is the program director for Brown University’s Advanced GI MIS/Bariatrics and Hernia and Abdominal Wall Fellowship program – one of only three fellowships in the country to have this triple designation, the site director of The Miriam Hospital’s general surgery residency program, and the director of the surgery sub-internship.
Dr. Giorgi earned his medical degree from the University of Pisa in Italy. He completed his residency in general surgery at Rhode Island Hospital and completed his fellowship in advanced gastrointestinal, minimally invasive and bariatric surgery at the University of California, Davis Medical Center.
Dr. Giorgi is board certified by the American Board of Surgery, is certified by the American Society for Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery and the Society of American Gastrointestinal and Endoscopic Surgeons. He has published his scientific works about the abdominal wall, robotics, and endoscopy in regional and national meetings and peer-reviewed journals, as well as manuscripts and book chapters.
