Matthew Sheehan is an inpatient attending psychiatrist at Newport Hospital, where he also serves as a consultant liaison and works with the emergency department.

Before working with Brown University Health, Dr. Sheehan worked as a psychiatrist with Hawaii Permanente Medical Group in Honolulu and Butler Hospital.

He earned a medical degree from Weill Cornell Medicine in New York City. Dr. Sheehan completed a residency in general psychiatry through Brown University at Butler Hospital in Providence. He also earned a certificate in healthcare management from the Yale School of Management.

Dr. Sheehan has collaborated on research published in peer-reviewed academic journals. He is a diplomat with the American Board of Psychiatry and a member of the American Psychiatric Association.
