All physicians in Find a Doctor have the opportunity to have a picture or video posted on the site. Mirabelle Mattar, MD
Psychiatric Director, Medical Psychiatric Program at Hasbro Children's Hospital
Mirabelle Mattar, MD, a child and adolescent psychiatrist, is medical co-director of the Judge Bruce M. and Cynthia M. Selya Integrated Care Unit at Hasbro Children’s.
She is an assistant professor of psychiatry and human behavior (clinician educator) at The Warren Alpert Medical School of Brown University.
Dr. Mattar earned her medical degree at Holy Spirit University of Kaslik in Jounieh, Lebanon. She completed her residencies in internal medicine/psychiatry at Hotel Dieu de France/Saint Joseph University in Beirut, Lebanon, and in general psychiatry at Upstate University Hospital/State University of New York Upstate Medical University in Syracuse, where she was chief psychiatry resident. She furthered her training with a fellowship in child and adolescent psychiatry at Upstate University Hospital and Hutchings Psychiatric Center.
Additionally, she trained in eye movement desensitization and reprocessing and system-centered therapy and has a certificate in dynamic deconstructive psychotherapy.
Dr. Mattar is board-certified in psychiatry, neurology, and child and adolescent psychiatry.
She treats patients with coexisting emotional and physical disorders within a large multidisciplinary team at Hasbro Children's Hospital. She believes in the power of involving families in the treatment and recovery of their child, along with group therapy, individual therapy, and when needed, medication management.
Dr. Mattar is a mentor and a mentee in the diversity mentoring program within the psychiatry and behavioral health department at the Alpert Medical School. She supervises child and adolescent psychiatry fellows, general psychiatry residents, triple board residents, medical students, and teaches seminars in other departments, such as pediatrics/developmental pediatrics. She received a Dean’s Excellence in Teaching Award in 2019.
She also is the assistant director of the Henrietta Leonard Medical Student Fellowship Program in Child and Adolescent Psychiatry, funded by the Klingenstein Third Generation Foundation.
Dr. Mattar is a member of the American Academy of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry and the Lebanese Order of Physicians.
She has co-authored several articles in peer-reviewed journals, and has presented internationally.
