Rachel Putman, MD, MPH, is a board-certified pulmonologist, the associate director of the Center for Advanced Lung Care, Pulmonary, Critical Care, and Sleep Medicine, and the director of Brown University Health’s Interstitial Lung Disease Program

Dr. Putnam has presented at conferences and collaborated on peer reviewed research published in academic journals. Her research focuses on diseases that affect the lungs, especially conditions that cause scarring, such as pulmonary fibrosis. She also studies how factors like aging, smoking, and family history affect lung health.

She earned a medical degree from the Sidney Kimmel Medical College at Thomas Jefferson University in Philadelphia and a master’s degree in public health with a focus on quantitative methods from the Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health. Dr. Putnam completed an internal medicine internship and residency at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center (BIDMC) in Boston, a medical clinical fellowship and a medical research fellowship at Harvard Medical School, and the Massachusetts General Hospital-BIDMC Harvard Pulmonary and Critical Care Fellowship.

She is a member of the American Thoracic Society and the European Respiratory Society.
