Sean D. Fine, MD, MS

Dr. Sean Fine is a gastroenterologist and the director of Brown University Health’s Inflammatory Bowel Disease (IBD) Center and an associate professor of medicine at The Warren Alpert Medical School of Brown University. He specializes in the comprehensive management of Crohn’s disease and ulcerative colitis with expertise in early therapeutic optimization, complex IBD care, and the implementation of personalized, evidence-based treatment pathways.

Dr. Fine’s academic and research focus centers on real-world outcomes in IBD, including biologic and small-molecule treatment durability, predictors of sustained remission, and socioeconomic disparities and how this may impact outcomes for patients with IBD. He has presented at regional and national GI meetings and participates in multicenter collaborative research efforts dedicated to improving long-term outcomes for individuals living with IBD.

Dedicated to innovation in IBD management, Dr. Fine has completed additional advanced training in intestinal ultrasound (IUS). His integration of IUS provides patients at the IBD Center with real-time, radiation-free, point-of-care assessment to guide therapeutic decisions and improve the precision of disease monitoring.

Dr. Fine serves on the Crohn’s & Colitis Foundation’s National Scientific Advisory Committee and the Visiting IBD/START IBD Committee, contributing to national initiatives that shape research priorities, education, and standards of care. He is also a member of the American College of Gastroenterology (ACG) and the American Gastroenterological Association (AGA).

Dr. Fine is committed to medical education, teaching residents and fellows in both inpatient and outpatient gastroenterology, and mentoring trainees interested in pursuing advanced IBD training and research.
