Shilpa Vijayakumar, MD, MPH

Cardiologist

Shilpa Vijayakumar, MD, is a cardiologist with the Brown University Health Cardiovascular Institute. Her clinical and research interests focus on the mechanisms and management of heart failure, advanced cardiovascular imaging, and infiltrative cardiomyopathies, particularly cardiac amyloidosis, with an emphasis on leveraging imaging to improve diagnosis, risk stratification, and patient outcomes.

Dr. Vijayakumar is actively engaged in grant-funded clinical research and has collaborated on research published in peer-reviewed academic journals. She serves as a peer reviewer for numerous medical journals and has presented her work at spoken at national and international medical conferences.

She earned a medical degree from New York Medical College and a master’s degree in public health from the Harvard TH Chan School of Public Health. Dr. Vijayakumar completed an internal medicine residency at the Stony Brook University Hospital in New York, followed by a fellowship in cardiovascular medicine at The Warren Alpert Medical School of Brown University/Rhode Island Hospital. She then pursued two advanced fellowships – one in cardiovascular imaging and research and the other in advanced heart failure and transplant cardiology – at Brigham and Women’s Hospital/Harvard Medical School in Boston.

Dr. Vijayakumar is a member of the American Medical Association, the American College of Physicians, the American College of Cardiology, the American Heart Association, the American Society of Nuclear Cardiology, the American Society of Echocardiography, and the Heart Failure Society of America.
