Thomas Ng, MD, FRCS(C), FACS, is the chief of thoracic surgery at the Brown University Health Cancer Institute, professor of surgery at The Warren Alpert Medical School of Brown University and a board-certified thoracic surgeon with broad expertise in the diagnosis and treatment of thoracic diseases. Dr. Ng also specializes in robotic surgery. He brings decades of clinical, academic, and leadership experience to his role and remains committed to advancing patient-centered care through research and education.

Dr. Ng returned to Brown University Health after leading the Division of Thoracic Surgery at the University of Tennessee Health Science Center, College of Medicine for five years. During that time, he helped build an interdisciplinary cancer program with a focus on developing a specialization in robotic thoracic surgery, held the Eastridge Cole Endowed Chair of Thoracic Surgery, and served as a Professor of Surgery in the College of Medicine. He also treated patients at Methodist University Hospital, Baptist Memorial Hospital, Regional One Health, and the Memphis Veterans Administration Medical Center. His earlier career included service as the Thoracic Surgery Section Chief in the Department of Surgery at Rhode Island Hospital and clinical roles at the Miriam Hospital, Providence Veterans Administration Medical Center,, and Memorial Hospital of Rhode Island. In addition, he served as co-director of the Multidisciplinary Thoracic Oncology Clinic at Rhode Island Hospital Cancer Center.

Dr. Ng serves as the editor of the Journal of Thoracic and Cardiovascular Surgery’s feature section. He recently also served on the National Comprehensive Cancer Network non-small cell lung cancer, mesothelioma and thymoma panels. He has collaborated on and co-authored numerous articles in peer-reviewed journals, contributed chapters to major medical texts, and presented his work at national and international meetings. His research focuses on expanding treatment options and improving long-term outcomes for people with lung and other thoracic diseases.

He received a medical degree from Queen's University School of Medicine in Kingston, Ontario. Dr. Ng completed a general surgery residency at The Warren Alpert Medical School of Brown University, where he served as chief resident, a critical care medicine fellowship at the University of Toronto, and a thoracic surgery fellowship at the University of Ottawa.

Dr. Ng is a fellow of the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada and the American College of Surgeons. He is a member of the Society of Thoracic Surgeons, the Canadian Association of Thoracic Surgeons, and the American Association for Thoracic Surgery.
