The Capacity Management and Access Center's mission is to optimize capacity within Brown University Health, through highly efficient and consistent management of patient flow across the entire continuum of care.

The team takes a patient-first approach, ensuring that every patient is placed in the right hospital, in the right bed, in a timely manner.

Transfer and Access Team

The Transfer and Access team within CMAC (previously ExpressCare), manages all patient transfer request coming into the Brown University Health system

This team provides 24-hour, seven-day-a-week access to an experienced team of registered nurse navigators who arrange for the transfer of patients to any of the Brown University Health Hospitals.

Our experienced team of nurse navigators manages every transfer, and can coordinate with LifePACT, our critical care transport team to provide the safest, most efficient transfer of your patient in our state-of-the-art ambulance.

LifePACT

Our critical transport teams are highly skilled to provide intensive care treatment during the transport of patients in state-of-the-art ambulances. Each ambulance is equipped with a transport ventilator, a medication refrigerator, a fluid warmer, multiple IV medication pumps and support for high-fidelity manikin training.

Brown University Health has a highly skilled critical care transport teams: able to transport both adult and pediatric patient populations. These highly skilled teams provide intensive care treatment during the transport of patients.

Our critical care transport teams include:

Emergency medicine attending physicians (both adult and pediatric)
Pediatric intensive care attending physicians
Senior emergency medicine and/or pediatric residents
Critical care paramedics

Capacity and Flow

Our capacity and flow team manages capacity, including patient placement across all of Brown University Health.

The team monitors hospital capacity at each site, works with hospital teams to place patients efficiently, even during high-demand periods.
