Our Collections

If a tour through a Brown University Health partner hospital makes you wonder whether you are in a hospital or an art gallery, it's not surprising. From the whimsical Coco Mdogo elephant sculpture in Newport Hospital’s atrium to Bradley Hospital's underground tunnel turned ocean paradise, art is everywhere. It is enriching the lives of patients and staff and raising public consciousness about the important role art can play in humanizing health care.
Artists and collectors have donated more than 650 paintings and sculptures to Hasbro Children's. The Davol corridor at Rhode Island Hospital displays the work of Brown University Health employees and local artists.
In addition to original artwork by local artists and hospital employees at Rhode Island, The Miriam, Newport, and Bradley hospitals, the Healing Arts program at Hasbro Children’s continues to evolve with new and reimagined pieces.
Recent updates include:
- Digital Gallery of Circle of Clay Tiles— More than 10,000 handmade tiles—created by patients, local elementary school students, and community members—once adorned the walls of Hasbro Children’s Hospital as part of the beloved Circle of Clay project. During recent hospital renovations, the tiles were carefully removed, but not before the installation was digitally preserved and can now be viewed online in a gallery. - Aerial Sculpture by Peter Diepenbrock— A large-scale asymmetrical mobile by Jamestown-based artist Peter Diepenbrock now hangs in the main lobby atrium. Installed in 2021, the piece provides a striking welcome for patients and families.
- Fountain Reimagined: A Tribute to Howard Ben Tré— The iconic fountain created by Howard and Gay Ben Tré, a familiar sight in the Hasbro Children’s lobby for 25 years, has been re-envisioned as a sculpture installation in Legacy Park. With Howard Ben Tré’s blessing before his passing, seven elements of the original fountain were transformed into new works of art in the park’s sculpture garden.
- In 2023, the hallways of Hasbro Children’s brightened with illustrations by artist and children’s book illustrator Denis Roche. Their art captures the beauty of Rhode Island in fun, charming characters, like harbor seals wearing surgical hats and ships staffed by the hospital’s therapy dogs.
