Brown Health Medical Group Neurology physicians use botulinum toxin injection therapy to treat patients with specific neurological conditions, including blepharospasm, hemifacial spasms, cervical dystonia/torticollis, upper limb spasticity, and other medical indications. There are two medications used to treat these conditions: Botox, Type A, and Myobloc, Type B botulinum toxin. When necessary, electromyography guidance (EMG) identifies the most active areas of muscle contraction for injection of Botox.
Botox or Myobloc is injected into the affected muscle to block neuromuscular transmission in that area, easing stiffness and decreasing the spasms. Since it is a localized injection, the rest of the body isn’t affected. Botox and/or Myobloc injections are typically given every three months or more.
With a physician referral, one of our providers will perform an initial assessment and make recommendations for treatment.
Our staff will work with you and your insurance company to determine if your health insurance covers this therapy for your condition.
