What to Expect Before and After Your Appointment

Before Your First Infusion

Before your first infusion, we need to review your medical history and the results of relevant tests. The tests can be done at your doctor’s office or where you normally obtain labs. Your doctor can send your records digitally or fax them to 401-519-2981. Someone from our team will reach out before your appointment to go over your medical history and what to expect for your appointment.

The Day of Your Appointment

On the day of your appointment, bring your insurance card and wear comfortable clothes. No other preparations are needed. A registered nurse will administer and supervise your infusion.

After Your Appointment

After your appointment, our staff will send your provider details about your infusion appointment and will discuss them with the doctor if needed.

Frequently Asked Questions

What Is an Infusion Service?

A specialty infusion service provides intravenous (IV) administration for various specialty medications outside a hospital setting. These services are used for treatments that can’t be taken by mouth such as biologic drugs, antibiotics, or nutrition. Infusion services are usually nurse led and provided in a special clinic or suite, like Brown Health’s Specialty Infusion Center, offering convenience, close monitoring, education, and support.

Will My Insurance Cover an Infusion Treatment?

Our staff will verify your insurance coverage and benefits. Once you have been approved to start treatment, we will contact you to discuss further details and to review copay assistance options, if appropriate. If you have other questions about insurance, please call us at 401-793-7650.

What If I Have an Infection Before My Infusion?

If you have an infection in the two weeks before your infusion appointment, you should notify your doctor and call the infusion center at 401-793-7650.

What Happens If I Have a Bad Reaction to the Infusion?

In case of an adverse reaction to the medication, safety procedures are in place. Medical emergencies are rare, but doctors are on the premises and hospitals are only minutes away.
