Newport Hospital Awards $185,000 to Local Youth Programs through its Frederick Henry Prince Memorial Fund

Newport Hospital is continuing its commitment to youth wellness across Aquidneck Island, awarding grants through its Frederick Henry Prince Memorial fund to support local programs serving children and teens. Recently, the fund provided a total of $185,000 to 26 organizations dedicated to helping young people build healthy habits through physical activity, education, and positive lifestyle choices.

The “Powered by Prince” grants, ranging from $2,500 to $15,000, will help support and expand a broad mix of programs from athletics and outdoor recreation to enrichment and skill-building opportunities offered throughout Newport County.

“Through our Prince Fund, we’re able to support programs that open doors for young people and encourage lifelong wellness,” said Tenny Thomas, MD, FACEP, MHL, President and Chief Medical Officer of Newport Hospital. “These grants are about more than activities, they’re about access, opportunity, and helping children on a path to a healthy future. We are honored to administer this fund and proud to have so many dedicated partners in our community working toward this shared goal.”

The Frederick Henry Prince Memorial Fund at Newport Hospital was established in 2010 when Elizabeth Prince of Newport and her children – Diana Oehrli, Guillaume de Ramel, and Regis de Ramel – donated $3 million to the hospital to fund healthy activities for underserved children. With this year’s grants, the fund has now awarded more than $1.6 million in grants since inception.
