Rachel M. Depner, PhD

Psychologist

Rachel Depner is a psychologist with Brown University Health’s Adult Partial Hospital Program, where she provides individual and group therapy. Her clinical approach is grounded in third-wave cognitive behavioral therapies, including acceptance and mindfulness-based treatments, and incorporates elements of existential psychology. She supports patients navigating chronic illness, grief, and other life transitions, drawing on a background in embodied self-regulation.

In addition to her clinical work, Dr. Depner is a clinical instructor of psychiatry and human behavior at The Warren Alpert Medical School of Brown University. Her research and publications explore topics such as mindful self-care, posttraumatic growth, end-of-life experiences, and healthcare access among underserved populations, including incarcerated individuals and people living in rural communities.

Dr. Depner earned her doctorate degree in counseling and school psychology, a terminal master’s degree in mental health counseling, and an advanced certificate in mindful counseling for wellness and engagement from the University at Buffalo, The State University of New York. She completed a pre-doctoral internship in health service psychology at the VA Central Western Massachusetts Healthcare System and a postdoctoral fellowship in clinical psychology at Brown University.

She is a member of the Association for Contextual Behavioral Science (ACBS) and the American Psychological Association.
