Ingredients

  • 1 cup flour
  • 1/2 tsp. salt
  • 1 tsp. baking soda
  • 2 and 1/2 cup rolled oats
  • 1 cup brown sugar
  • 3/4 cup melted margarine
  • 1 cup dates
  • 1/2 cup water
  • 1/2 cup brown sugar

Directions

Yield: 24 squares

Time: About 35 minutes

Preheat oven to 375º. In a large bowl, mix together the first six ingredients. 

Dice dates, add to small sauce pan, and add water. Cook until tender. Add brown sugar and cook until thick. 

Put half of oat mixture in greased 12x8" pan. Press down. Spread with date filling. Top with remaining oat mixture and press down. 

Bake for 20 minutes. Cut in squares while warm. Cool in pan.
