At the forefront of treatment and research for infectious diseases
Our infectious diseases and immunology program provides comprehensive inpatient and outpatient medical care to patients with any type of infectious disease. Our areas of expertise include bacteriology, global health, human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) and acquired immune deficiency syndrome (AIDS), infection control, virology, and sepsis research.
Rhode Island and The Miriam hospitals are major teaching affiliates of The Warren Alpert Medical School of Brown University and host the nationally recognized Infectious Diseases Fellowship Program. In collaboration with the medical school, our mission is to provide state-of-the-art care, teach and mentor tomorrow’s health care providers, and pursue clinical and basic research.
A Regional Resource
Our Infectious Diseases and Immunology Center, located at The Miriam Hospital, is the largest provider of outpatient care in Rhode Island for patients with infectious diseases and serves as a resource to community health care providers.
The center is the home to specialized outpatient clinics treating patients with Lyme disease, HIV, hepatitis, and tuberculosis, among other conditions. Coordinated with the Rhode Island Department of Health, our Community Infectious Disease Prevention Clinic also provides prevention, counseling, testing, and treatment services.
In addition, Brown Health Medical Group Travel Medicine is widely recognized as a leader in tropical medicine and international health and is the largest travel medicine center in Rhode Island.
