Providence/Boston Center for AIDS Research

The Providence/Boston Center for AIDS Research (CFAR) is a joint research effort between Brown University and Brown University Health along with Boston University/Boston Medical Center. The CFAR is devoted to the pursuit of translational research to reduce the burden of HIV infection worldwide, with special focus on substance users, women, men who have sex with men (MSM), justice-involved persons, and at-risk youth. To achieve this goal, we are committed to fostering emerging HIV investigators both domestically and within resource-limited settings.

Center of Biomedical Research Excellence on Opioids and Overdose

The Center of Biomedical Research Excellence (COBRE) on opioids and overdose, based at the Rhode Island Hospital, is the first center of its kind aimed to collaboratively address the opioid epidemic. This COBRE is a vibrant, interdisciplinary center that supports research essential to understanding the mechanisms underlying opioid use disorder and developing innovative solutions. A main objective of the NIH-Funded COBRE initiative is to support the development of junior investigators into independently funded investigators, and to develop a critical mass of investigators competitive for peer-reviewed external research funding.

Collaborative Justice-Involved Research Training (CJRT) Program on Substance Use and HIV at Brown University Health

The CJRT program, funded by the National Institute on Drug Abuse, is dedicated to training scholars who bring diverse backgrounds and research interests, converging with a goal to enhance health outcomes among individuals involved in the justice system. The CJRT experience fosters a robust, multidisciplinary, and collaborative research training environment, where scholars learn from their peers, CJRT alumnae, and program faculty. Leveraging mentorship from their home institutions and the CJRT program, our scholars embark on highly innovative research projects and participate in career development activities.
