Medical Psychiatric Program

Pediatric Medical Psychiatric Program at Hasbro Children's

The Medical Psychiatric Program at Hasbro Children’s addresses the needs of children and adolescents who are struggling with psychiatric and medical illness at the same time. Patients we care for may have gastrointestinal illnesses, eating disorders, diabetes, asthma, seizures, pain syndromes, somatoform disorders, and complex presentations that require diagnostic evaluations.

Ours is the only program in the region designed to provide family-based integrated care for young people with these health challenges. Inpatient and partial hospital levels of care are available.

A collaboration between Bradley Hospital and Hasbro Children’s, the program is staffed by a rich multidisciplinary team comprising pediatricians, child psychiatrists, psychologists, an advanced practice psychiatric nurse, social workers, pediatric nurses, mental health workers, and nutritionists. We also coordinate care with hospital-based rehabilitation specialists and pediatric subspecialists as needed.

Family-Based Integrated Care

Both our inpatient and partial hospital programs provide family-based integrated care. We involve families in the creation of an individualized treatment plan, incorporating a balance of medical and psychological support with the goal of the child’s successful transition to full functioning at home and school. Family involvement includes nursing and nutrition education sessions, multidisciplinary team meetings, family therapy, and involvement in multifamily groups.
