Minimally Invasive Surgery
Minimally Invasive Surgery
We believe that the severity of surgery is ultimately related to the size of the incisions and the invasiveness of the procedure. At Brown University Health hospitals, our surgeons are dedicated to the treatment of surgical disorders in a manner that is least invasive to the body. Minimally invasive, or videoscopic, procedures use small, 5 to 10 millimeter incisions as opposed to conventional, open procedures which require large incisions.
Minimally invasive surgery results in:
- Less pain
- Faster postoperative recovery
- Earlier discharge from the hospital
Many of these procedures are performed on an outpatient basis.
The divisions of minimally invasive surgery at Rhode Island and The Miriam hospitals are associated with The Warren Alpert Medical School of Brown University and Brown Surgical Associates, and the general surgeons at Newport Hospital are associated with Brown Surgical Associates.
