Pediatric Otolaryngology (ENT)

Pediatric ENT Services at Hasbro Children's

Ear, nose and throat (ENT) specialists treat disorders of the head and neck, including the ears, nose, throat, sinuses and vocal cords. Some specialize in pediatric otolaryngology, which has its own unique issues due to the developing anatomy in children and disorders related to age, such as tonsilitis and chronic ear infections.

Brown Health offers pediatric ENT services at our Otolaryngology Clinic in the lower level of Hasbro Children's and in our providers’ private practices in Massachusetts and Rhode Island.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ) about Pediatric ENT

What is pediatric otolaryngology?

Pediatric otolaryngology is the medical and surgical care of ear, nose, and throat conditions in infants, children, and adolescents. Physicians trained in pediatric otolaryngology, often referred to as pediatric ear, nose, and throat specialists, diagnose and treat a wide range of conditions involving the ears, nose, throat, head, and neck. Care may include medical management, monitoring, or pediatric ENT surgery when appropriate. Patients may be referred to otolaryngologists for medical issues such as recurrent ear infections, tonsil and adenoid disorders, and head and neck tumors.

When should I take my child to a doctor for ear pain?

Ear pain is common in children, but some symptoms warrant seeing your child’s pediatrician or pediatric ENT specialist. You should consider seeing a pediatrician or pediatric ENT specialist if your child:

  • Has ear pain lasting more than one to two days
  • Experiences frequent or recurrent ear infections
  • Has fever, drainage from the ear, or hearing changes
  • Shows signs of balance problems or dizziness
  • Does not improve with initial treatment
