Patient Guide

Our comprehensive patient guide takes you step-by-step through your total joint replacement surgery, with specific information on what to expect and how to best prepare for surgery and recovery.

Get Ready for Joint Replacement

Your surgeon will discuss your health with you prior to surgery to make sure you are safe for surgery and in optimal health, to have the best chance of a positive outcome. There are certain health issues that can increase your risk of complications during and after joint replacement surgery. Some of these health issues are things you can actively work on, and change. Many insurance companies also have strict guidelines as to who is, and who is not, a candidate for joint replacement surgery. For the best outcome after joint replacement, your surgeon (and insurer) may require controlled blood sugar/blood pressure, no nicotine, and weight loss.
