FRIENDS WAY

FRIENDS WAY joined Gateway in 2006. It is the only bereavement center in Rhode Island and Southern MA dedicated to serving children. Its mission is to provide a haven for healing and hope to children and families mourning the death of a loved one, sometimes due to traumatic circumstances. FRIENDS WAY provides peer-based support groups for children and families as well as a specialized camp experience for grieving children and teens. FRIENDS WAY also provides consultation to schools and child-serving agencies in the community on issues of child grief. Located in Warwick, RI, FRIENDS WAY offers all its services to children aged 3 to 18 years free of charge, including biweekly grief groups, family activities, and three days summer camp. Children’s readiness to participate in the program is assessed by a licensed clinician prior to admission.

The Autism Project

The Autism Project affiliated with Gateway Healthcare in April 2007 to develop innovative Autism Spectrum Disorders (ASD) programming and increase access to care. The Autism Project is a unique collaboration of parents, professionals, and community members that came together in 1997. They support neurodiverse individuals with ASD, other developmental disabilities, and communication, social-emotional, and regulation challenges. The Autism Project provides family support, training and consultation, social skills groups, and a summer camp. They work with state agencies and community organizations to promote awareness of ASD to increase collaboration at all levels.

Capital City Community Centers

Capital City Community Centers affiliated with Gateway Healthcare in 2008. Capital City incorporated in 1945 and has a long-standing history of providing neighborhood-based social services to individuals and families with socio-economic needs. Located in Providence, Capital City offers programming that includes an early childhood program serving over 100 preschool and pre-kindergarten children, a senior center, and a food pantry.
