School of Medical Imaging Admissions Information

Admission to the School of Medical Imaging is competitive and is not guaranteed by applying. Applicants will be required to complete a personal interview and essay submission.

Qualifications

Applicants must meet specific requirements to be accepted into the School of Medical Imaging.

Education

Applicants must either be currently enrolled as a Rhode Island College (RIC) student or hold an associate’s degree or higher from another institution. 

Provide your higher education status in one of the following ways:

If you are a current Rhode Island College (RIC) student . . . 

Provide a copy of your Rhode Island College (RIC) transcript, that shows you:

  • Completed a minimum of 60 hours of credits required of the Medical Imaging Program
  • Met all requirements of RIC
  • Completed the general education courses identified by RIC
  • Completed the following courses with a grade of “C” or better:
    • One semester of college or university level physics
    • Two semesters of anatomy and physiology
    • One semester of mathematical/logical reasoning/college algebra (e.g., statistics, calculus)
    • One semester of chemistry (for nuclear medicine technology program only)

If you hold an associate's degree or higher from any instution, in any major . . .

Provide a copy of your transcript, showing completion with a grade of “C” or better in the following courses: 

  • One semester of college or university level physics
  • Two semesters of anatomy and physiology
  • One semester of mathematical/logical reasoning/college algebra (e.g., statistics, calculus)
  • One semester of chemistry (for nuclear medicine technology program only) 

Grade Point Average (GPA)

Applicants must demonstrate a cumulative GPA of 2.7 or higher.

Additional Requirements

As a condition of acceptance, applicants selected will be required to comply with:

  • Criminal background check
  • COVID (2-step series) and annual flu vaccination policy 

Admissions Steps

  • Application is available December 1 to January 23.
  • Complete an application form and submit with $50.00 application fee.
  • Submit college transcript(s) – all colleges attended.
  • Submit TEAS (Test of Essential Academic Skills) score.
  • Complete online module
  • All documentation (including application) must be received by January 23

The applicant will be notified by email when the documents have been received, and the application is complete. The applicant will be notified of scheduled information sessions and interview dates.

Admission Process

  • Complete the admission steps.
  • Attend an informational open house session (not required for acceptance).
  • Interview with school faculty.

Students are accepted by an admissions committee based on a point system. 

Notice of acceptance/denial is provided via email after all admissions standards have been met.
