Workforce Development Computed Tomography (CT) Technologist Training Program

Brown University Health Workforce Development offers a 26-week Computed Tomography (CT) Technologist training program designed for credentialed radiologic technologists who are interested in advancing their careers in medical imaging. In partnership with the Brown University Health School of Medical Imaging, this program prepares participants with the specialized technical knowledge and hands-on clinical experience needed to become certified CT technologists.

The program combines self-paced online coursework, workforce readiness training, and structured clinical rotations in hospital imaging departments. Participants gain real-world experience performing CT procedures under the supervision of experienced preceptors while completing the clinical requirements necessary to sit for the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) CT Post-Primary Certification Exam.

Students will learn:

  • CT physics, fundamentals, and imaging instrumentation
  • Patient care, contrast administration, and venipuncture techniques
  • CT scanning protocols and cross-sectional anatomy
  • Radiation safety principles and dose optimization strategies
  • CT image reconstruction, post-processing, and quality control
  • Clinical workflow, PACS systems, and CT imaging procedures in hospital settings
  • Recognition of common pathologies and appropriate imaging protocols

Program requirements:

  • Registered Technologist Certification through The American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) or The Nuclear Medicine Technology Certification Board (NMTCB)
  • Current radiography students who will graduate in 2026, but have not yet been certified, may apply to this program but will need to complete certification before December 1, 2026.
