Ultrasound, also known as sonography, is an imaging technique that uses high frequency sound waves to create images of the inside of the body. It is safe and noninvasive, and does not use radiation. Ultrasound allows the structure and function of internal organs and blood vessels to be viewed in real time for diagnostic purposes or to guide certain interventions or procedures.
