What Differentiates This Track

The Co-Occurring Track is a fully separate specialty track from the General Track. While group times, opportunities for individual therapy/medication management, and care coordination remain the same, individuals on this track do not take part in general track programming. This separation is intentional and ensures that individuals whose treatment priorities include addressing addictive behaviors or disorders receive targeted, comprehensive care focused on those needs.

The treatment in this track primarily utilizes dialectical behavior therapy (DBT) for substance use, which is an evidence-based treatment targeting emotion regulation, in combination with relapse and prevention skills for addiction and recovery, motivational interviewing, and integration of other third-wave treatment modalities including Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) and mindfulness-based treatments.

We provide a space for compassionate, accepting, and supportive care with the goal of developing healthy, abstinence-focused habits and harm-reduction coping skills to build a values-driven life.

The track targets core components of:

  • Emotion regulation and managing intense emotions in healthy ways
  • Distress tolerance and reducing harmful behaviors
  • Interpersonal effectiveness and communicating emotions/needs
  • Mindfulness and mindfulness of addictive patterns
  • Values and building a life worth living
  • Identity building/self-acceptance
  • Psychoeducation of addiction and mental health
  • Peer and family support/connection

With other opportunities for skill building for:

  • Recognizing and navigating cravings and urges
  • Developing self-care habits and structured daily routines
  • Engaging in meaningful, purpose-driven activities that support recovery
  • Establishing and maintaining connection with outpatient or continuing care services
Who May Benefit from This Track

The co-occurring track treats a range of mental health disorders and can help those diagnosed with an addictive disorder (e.g., substance use disorder), but a formal diagnosis is not required for the track.
