Our team of rehabilitation professionals works closely with the physicians at the Norman Prince Spine Institute to evaluate and treat patients with spine pain. Every patient receives a comprehensive evaluation followed by a manual and exercise-based plan of care individually designed to meet the needs of the patient. Our clinicians have extensive clinical expertise and experience to help treat each individual suffering from spine pain, including but not limited to chronic neck and back pain, post-surgical pain, whiplash, work-related spine pain, overuse injuries, pelvic pain and more. In addition to treating pain specific to the spine, we also treat hospital employees with a broad spectrum of injuries that is impeding their job performance.
Our therapists use these techniques:
- spinal mobilization to reduce pain and improve spinal alignment and mobility
- therapeutic exercises based on current biomechanical and anatomical research
- postural and activity modification
- soft tissue and muscle-lengthening techniques to correct muscle imbalance
- traditional therapies such as electrical stimulation and traction
- additional therapies such as dry needling
- aquatic rehabilitation
- neuromuscular re-education
- sport-specific exercise
Brown University Health’s Sports Program focuses on return to physical activity and athletic participation. Our licensed physical therapists and certified athletic trainers have received training in sports-related injuries and strength and conditioning programs. Each participant receives a physical therapy evaluation, and treatment plans are personalized to meet the specific needs of each athlete and sport-specific activities for the best success in getting off the sidelines.
Our therapists are certified to provide a functional movement screen when patients are pain-free to filter areas of movement dysfunction and develop an appropriate treatment plan to address and prevent future injury or injury recurrence. Our therapists are active members of the American Physical Therapy Association special groups: Orthopedics and Sports Physical Therapy, with involvement in the Female Athlete and Running Special Interest groups.
Our therapists are trained in Graston Technique therapy, which is an evidence-based form of instrument-assisted soft tissue mobilization to break down scar tissue and fascial restrictions in order to restore range of motion. Our clinic can provide dry needling, a neurophysiological treatment to decrease pain, reduce muscle tension, normalize dysfunction in motor end plates, and facilitate faster return to activity.
We can facilitate speedy recovery from an acute orthopedic injury or orthopedic surgery with our Game Ready system. This device provides intermittent pneumatic compression with a cold wrap. It provides better surface contact with more effective cooling, aiding quick recovery and helping achieve positive patient outcomes. We want to get you back on the field!
