The sports medicine team at Morton Hospital specializes in preventing, diagnosing, and treating injuries related to physical activity and sports at all levels. These injuries include:

  • Minimally invasive hip, knee and shoulder surgery, including hip arthroscopy ("hip scopes")
  • Advanced sports surgery, including cartilage-saving procedures and ligament injuries and repairs
  • Shoulder injuries, including rotator cuff repairs
  • Acute injuries, such as ankle sprains, muscle strains, knee and shoulder injuries and fractures

Morton’s chief of orthopedics, Andrew Rogers, MD, also works as the team physician for Taunton High School, providing medical coverage for athletes throughout the season. He is also the team physician for the Providence Bruins and the US National Hospital Team - Under 18.

Meniscus Tear Surgery

If you have torn your meniscus, the orthopedic team at Morton Hospital delivers advanced meniscus tear surgery to restore mobility and reduce pain quickly. A meniscus tear, which is damage to the cartilage that wraps around the knee joint between the thigh and shin bones, often results from sports injuries or everyday wear and tear. Our specialists evaluate each case and recommend the most effective path to joint pain relief, whether through conservative care or minimally invasive joint surgery.

When surgery is the best option, our surgeons perform meniscus tear surgery using precise, arthroscopic techniques. This outpatient procedure allows us to repair or remove damaged tissue through small incisions, which helps patients heal faster and return to activity sooner. Athletes and active adults benefit from personalized treatment plans designed to support safe, efficient recovery and long-term knee stability.

Led by Andrew Rogers, MD, chief of orthopedics at Morton Hospital, our program combines clinical expertise with real-world sports medicine experience. Dr. Rogers serves as a team physician for local and national athletes, bringing that same level of care to every patient we treat at Morton Hospital.

Hand, Arm and Trigger Finger Surgery

Morton Hospital’s upper extremity specialists diagnose and treat complex nerve and tendon conditions affecting the hand, wrist, and arm. Patients experiencing numbness, tingling, weakness, or pain can expect expert evaluation and personalized care plans designed to restore function and deliver lasting joint pain relief. Every orthopedic surgeon at Morton Hospital is board-certified, fellowship-trained, or both with advanced expertise in nerve and tendon injuries.

We offer comprehensive care for nerve compression conditions, including carpal tunnel and cubital tunnel syndromes. Carpal tunnel syndrome causes pain, numbness, and tingling in the hand when the median nerve becomes compressed in the wrist. When conservative care does not resolve symptoms, our surgeons perform carpal tunnel release surgery, an outpatient procedure that relieves pressure on the nerve and restores hand function.

Cubital tunnel syndrome affects the ulnar nerve at the elbow, leading to numbness, weakness, and reduced grip strength. Our specialists treat this condition with targeted nonsurgical therapies—such as bracing, activity modification, and injections—or surgery when necessary.
