Additional Information About the FAST-P Workshop

Summary and Objectives

This evidence-based telehealth workshop gives caregivers practical strategies to connect with their teens, navigate emotions, solve common family challenges such as screen time, homework struggles, and parent-teen conflict and reinforce strong positive family relationships.

Led by licensed clinical psychologists and advanced psychology fellows, the workshop combines research-backed strategies with practical tools you can use every day to:

  • Strengthen parent-teen communication
  • Manage emotional challenges
  • Solve everyday family challenges

Enrollment Eligibility: Caregivers of adolescents (ages 12 to 18)

Start Date: March 25, 2026

Schedule: Every Wednesday, 6:30 to 8 p.m. (virtual via Zoom)

Number of Sessions: Five weekly sessions

Materials: PDF workbook emailed to attendees

Commitment: Attendance at all five sessions is required

What You Will Learn

The workshop is divided into interactive sessions:

Session 1: Building Positive Interactions

 In the first session, you will learn:

  • Understanding challenging behavior through a developmental lens
  • One-on-one time, praise, and “choosing your battles”
  • Planning individualized time and ignoring attention-seeking behaviors

Session 2: Improving Communication

In the second session, you will learn:

  • Identifying parent–teen communication breakdowns
  • Emotion coaching and validation
  • Planning a validation-based conversation at home

Session 3: Behavior Change Through Contingencies

In the third session, you will learn:

  • Behavior modification foundations
  • When/Then strategies, natural rewards, and setting clear limits
  • Creating a family meeting plan

Session 4: Academic Support

In the fourth session, you will learn:

  • Organizational tools and homework planning
  • Future parenting goals and maintaining progress

Session 5: Screen/Media Management

In the fifth session, you will learn:

  • Family media agreements
  • Digital Boundaries
  • Final questions and answers
