Your Personal Grief
Grief is a natural response to loss. It is very individual - there is no right or wrong way to grieve.
- Grieve in your own way. The grief process is never the same for any two people. Do not compare yourself with others in similar situations. Heal in your own way and in your own time.
- Accept your emotions. Death brings many reactions in widely contrasting combinations. You may feel a range of emotions including denial, panic, anger, guilt, and sadness.
- It can be helpful to share your feelings with others. Find good listeners who will understand your feelings and your grief. Some helpful resources include support groups and a professional therapist.
- Sometimes, people feel the solution to their grief is an attempt to “forget.” To the contrary, it can be helpful to remember and speak of the life of your child.
- Maintain hope for the future. Be patient with yourself. The depth of sorrow will diminish in time.
