Bone and Soft Tissue Pathology
The Division of Bone and Soft Tissue Pathology provides a wide array of diagnostic services in bone and soft tissue pathology, particularly in oncologic pathology, i.e., sarcomas. Staffed by a group of three surgical pathologists with expertise in bone and soft tissue pathology, the division provides primary diagnostic and consultative services, as well as daily educational activities for residents and fellows. Moreover, the division works closely with the Molecular Pathology Laboratory at Rhode Island Hospital to identify diagnostic and therapeutic molecular genetic abnormalities in bone and soft tissue tumors.
The division offers:
- Diagnostic interpretation and reporting of cases for Rhode Island, The Miriam, and Newport hospitals.
- Use of a variety of in-house specialized tests, including immunohistochemistry and molecular genetic tests.
- Intraoperative consultative services for oncologic and orthopedic surgeries.
- Consultation services for second opinions.
- Participation in regularly scheduled sarcoma tumor boards.
- Teaching sessions to Brown University medical students, residents, and fellows.
