Hematology and Hematopathology
The Division of Hematology and Hematopathology includes faculty members with extensive experience in various benign and malignant hematological processes. They are committed to providing high-quality diagnostic services in all major areas of adult and pediatric hematology and hematopathology. The division offers consultation services with rapid turnaround times and autofaxing of reports.
Our after-hours and weekend on-call service provides expedited results for urgent and acute cases. Our pathologists are always available to discuss with the clinical team the diagnostic significance and implications. Complex cases are reviewed in consensus conferences and presented at weekly interdepartmental meetings, where they are evaluated with oncology colleagues specializing in both adult and pediatric hematology.
Services offered include:
- Routine and specialized hematological evaluations of bone marrow, peripheral blood, body fluids, lymph nodes, and other tissues involved in hematological disorders.
- Standardized and comprehensive reporting formats with correlative morphological, immunohistochemical, flow cytometric, molecular, and cytogenetic data.
- Hemoglobin electrophoresis and related studies, with interpretive reports correlating red blood cell morphology with relevant clinical features.
- Flow cytometry immunophenotypic analysis using antibody panels for lymphoproliferative disorders and lymphomas, including:
- T and B cell clonality
- Acute leukemias
- Stem cell enumeration
- Analysis of lymphocyte subsets
- Autoimmune lymphoproliferative syndrome (ALPS)
- Severe combined immunodeficiency disorders (SCID)
- Granulocyte-associated immunoglobulins for neutropenia evaluation
- EMA (a rapid flow cytometry measurement of membrane proteins for diagnosing hereditary spherocytosis)
- PNH studies for GPI-anchored proteins
